a town that grew around its springs
One of Slovenia’s best-known historic spa towns, surrounded by green hills — and the only place in the world where the natural mineral water Donat Mg rises. Slovenia is in the EU and Schengen, the currency is the euro; in 2026 the country ranks 4th in the Global Peace Index.
Most guests explore on their own: on foot around the spa town, by car or with the hotel transfer. We’ll suggest where to go and get you there.
On foot from the hotel

A round glass building from 1967 with 11 fountains — where Donat Mg is drunk straight from the spring.

The hotel stands on the slope right above the historic park of Rogaška — your walk starts at the door.

Included in your stay: take a bike or poles and explore the hills around the spa town.
Nearby — by car or transfer

Frescoes from 1780 on medical themes and a herb garden with 200–250 plants.

An estate above the monastery where fallow deer and mouflons roam eight hectares of hillside.

Terme Olimia in Podčetrtek, close to Olimje Monastery. No tour needed — we drive you there and pick you up.
Further away — lakes and mountains

A full-day trip. Guests usually go on their own — by car or with the hotel transfer.

An Alpine valley with waterfalls and walking trails of different lengths.
We’ll drive you to the thermal pools, the lakes or the mountains and pick you up when it suits you. A consultant will confirm the time and cost of the trip.
A guided tour is available on request: your personal assistant contacts a local guide, agrees the dates and arranges the trip with our transfer.

History
In 1909 Prince Aleksandar Karađorđević, later King of Yugoslavia, stayed here for three weeks as Comte d’Avala. Over the years the building was called Erzherzog Johann, Esplanade, Excelsior, Aleksandrov dom and Hotel Soča.
After closing in 1995, the hotel was restored in 2008–2009 and reopened in 2010 as Hotel Aleksander.
